This website
This website sets no cookies and shows no advertising: fonts and images are served by our own server. The trailers are hosted by YouTube, which receives nothing until you start one: its player (youtube-nocookie.com) only loads when you click, and YouTube then receives your IP address and applies its own privacy rules. Two choices stay in your browser and are never sent to us: the language you picked (local storage) and having closed the general's tips (for as long as the tab is open).
To measure how many people visit the site, our server records each file requested: date, page, the site you came from, browser, operating system and truncated IP address (its end erased), which cannot identify you. This log stays on our server, is only used for overall statistics, is never combined with any other data and is deleted after three months. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing the site's audience (article 6.1.f of the GDPR).
The game
Your games, maps and settings are saved on your computer only. The game contains no advertising and no analytics.
When playing online, the game connects to our matchmaking server, which receives your IP address (required for the connection), the player name you chose (shown to other players in the game list and to your opponent), as well as the country taken from your system language and your time zone (to suggest nearby opponents first). This data is only used to match players and to carry the game. Your full IP address, the country and the time zone stay in memory during the connection or the wait, then are forgotten: the server never writes them anywhere.
To keep correspondence games, the server writes to its disk: your player identity (a public key drawn at random by the game) with its registration and last connection dates, erased after 6 months without a connection if no stored game names it; the network it registered from (IP address with its end erased), forgotten after 24 hours; and, for each game, the name and network of its two players and its exchanges, end-to-end encrypted between them: the server stores and relays them without being able to read them. A game is erased as soon as both players have seen its outcome, and at the latest 4 days after it ends. The server log only counts totals (connections, games), with no names or addresses.
On a local network, the two computers connect to each other without going through us: each one sees the other's IP address.
Legal basis: providing the service you request by starting an online game (article 6.1.b of the GDPR). No data is sold, transferred or shared with third parties; our host, OVH, only provides the server.
Steam
The game is distributed by Steam. Your account, your purchases and Steam features (presence for your friends, virtual keyboard) are handled by Valve Corporation under its privacy policy.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your data. It erases itself within the periods given above; to request earlier erasure, or for any question, write to contact@fauxpasgames.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
